Test System Engineer
Key Responsibilities:
Commission test systems, rigs and cells.
Support design for test systems, rigs, cells and containers.
Ensure support for hardware and operating system upgrades
Ensure future customer needs are understood and addressed
Ensure equipment is available and capable. This includes measurement system
analysis, troubleshooting and improvement of key systems:
Engine Test Cell systems including: dynamometers, fuel conditioning systems,
aftercooler controls, combustion air flow, throttle interfaces, engine ECM
interface tools, etc.
Instrumentation for all test cell and engine measurements including
temperatures, pressures, torque, force, position, voltage, current, etc. This
includes sensor technology, sensor application, signal conditioning and data
acquisition.
Computer-automated control and data acquisition systems.
Identify and implement improvements to increase engine test quality,
productivity, throughput and reliability.
Determination of test system requirements
Evaluation of measurement and control systems versus requirements under real
world conditions
Design and/or selection of measurement and control systems for new capabilities
Provide technical guidance
Provide technical support for test cell operators, instrumentation technicians
and data/test cell customers.
Provide direction for documentation of equipment design and operating
procedures.
General Engineering Support:
Documentation of systems
Provide training to peers and customers
Requirements
Functional/Technical Skills:
BS or MS in Engineering or Engineering Technology
Familiarity with measurement, instrumentation and data acquisition systems is
required
PC skills (e.g. Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, etc.)
Ability to apply a wide range of technical skills including: mechanical systems;
measurement; instrumentation and controls; PLC's and PC computers.
Analytical and problem solving capabilities
General understanding of turbo operation (desired)
General understanding of engine operation (desired)
Computer hardware, software and networking (desired)
Familiarity with or willingness to learn the following:
Calibration strategy
Statistical Process Control
Capability Analysis
Measurement System Analysis
Statistical and six sigma tools including process mapping, statistical process
control, process FMEA and work flow analysis
